Description
Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier is a collaboration between legendary French wine grower, Michel Chapoutier and wine industry icon, Anthony Terlato. The single vineyard L-Block is from a tiny‘L’ shaped plot that survived the 13 year drought without irrigation. South facing and at an altitude of 400m, this is a low yielding and cool block. The wine is powerful and intense but with delicate, fine tannins.
Vintage
The 2014 growing season was impacted by frost around bud-burst resulting in low yields, then a long growing season allowed the wines to develop fragrance and balance.
Soil
The soil is composed of schists, lauze rocks made of limestone and quartz.
Harvest
Harvest is performed at maturity, usually 2 weeks later than neighbouring plots, avoiding over-maturation.
Vinification
100% destemmed grapes are fermented in concrete tanks. Maceration lasts from 4 to 6 weeks. A gentle extraction by pumping-over and a long maceration on skins ensure elegant and fine tannins.
Maturing
100% of the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting
Colour: intense and deep ruby colour with hints of violet.
Nose: black fruits, violet and liquorice.
Palate: fresh with a velvety middle palate. Spices, slightly acid wild strawberries.
