Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier is a collaboration between legendary French wine grower, Michel Chapoutier and wine industry icon, Anthony Terlato. The Malakoff vineyard is located at the southern end of the Landsborough Valley in Victoria’s Pyrenees wine region and exposed to the cool southerly winds which allow an extended growing season and complex flavours to develop.
Vintage
The 2014 growing season was impacted by frost around bud-burst resulting in low yields, then a long growing season allowed the wines to develop fragrance and balance.
Soil
Red and yellow podzolic soils overlying on a soil made up of schist and quartz.
Harvest
The grapes are harvested at maturity but avoiding over maturation.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and they ferment in cement or stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasts from 3 to 4 weeks to extract soft, elegant tannins, expressing the Terroir of Malakoff.
Maturing
The wine is entirely aged in French oak casks from 10 to 12 months.
Tasting
Colour: intense red.
Nose: complex and intense aromas of forest fruits (blueberries and wild cherries), hints of chocolate and mint.
Palate: full bodied, slightly woody. Persistent and juicy tannins with a long lasting finish.
