2013 Domaine Tournon Shay’s Flat Vineyard Shiraz
Single vineyard, organically farmed.
Grape Variety: 100% Shiraz
Region: Pyrenees, Victoria
The Shay’s Flat vineyard sits at an altitude of 350m in the Western Pyrenees Ranges and is organically farmed.
The 2013 vintage was beautiful in the Pyrenees with some rain, good bud burst and plenty of warm sunshine and cool evenings during the growing season which allowed for an even maturation of the grapes.
A mixture of deep red soil, schist, quartz and clay
The grapes are harvested at night, at optimal maturity while avoiding overipeness.
Grapes are destemmed and fermented in concrete or stainless steel tanks. A long maceration (from 3 to 5 weeks) and a gentle work on the marc allow
the extraction of fine and elegant tannins.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. A small proportion of the wine is aged in concrete tanks to preserve the freshness of the flavours.
Colour: dark red
Nose: complex nose of black fruits (cherry, blackberry) with hints of tobacco (havana cigar).
Palate: aromas of black fruits and liquorice with supple and delicate tannins.
